Along with releasing figures on the latest hardware sales in the US for June, the NPD Group also revealed software sales figures. The past month has seen scarcely any releases and any new titles sold 67 percent compared to new games last year. Thankfully, sales over the quarter increased by 47 percent overall..
The top selling games for the month included Watch Dogs and Mario Kart 8, the latter which sold 885,000 copies in the first five weeks. This was followed by Minecraft on the PS3 and Xbox 360, EA Sports UFC, FIFA 14, NBA 2K14, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Tomodachi Life and Grand Theft Auto 5.
The NPD Group doesn’t account for digital sales so actual figures for the above games may be slightly higher. Nonetheless, despite the lack of any big name releases, the industry in general is doing pretty well. Thoughts on the same? Let us know in the comments below what you think.
